Solid or Engineered — Built for Your Spec

Two ways to build a stair tread. Choose based on budget, dimensional stability, and how the tread will be installed.

Solid Wood Stair Tread

Edge-glued from solid hardwood staves into a full-thickness tread. Best suited to new staircase construction and projects where an all-wood, heavier feel is part of the spec.

Engineered Hardwood Stair Tread construction

Engineered Hardwood Stair Tread

A multi-layer hardwood core topped with the same hardwood wear layer used on our engineered flooring. More dimensionally stable across humidity swings, and the most direct way to match an engineered floor exactly.

Construction Detail

Built for a Seamless Return

On an open-sided staircase, the nosing profile has to wrap around the end of the tread as cleanly as it runs along the front. Each tread is cut with a return notch at its open end — a separate mitered return cap is shaped, glued, and sanded flush so the profile reads as one continuous piece of wood.

Specify which ends of each step are open and we'll cut the returns to match.

PREGUNTAS FRECUENTES

Common Questions

Can you make curved or winder stair treads?

Yes. Send us your stair plan or measurements and we'll cut curved and winder (fan-shaped) treads to fit, with no minimum order quantity.

Can I get a sample before placing an order?

Yes. Sample lead time is typically 15–30 days, depending on the species, finish, and shape requested.

Are stair treads available unfinished, or only prefinished?

Both. Unfinished treads allow on-site staining to match an existing floor exactly; prefinished treads come in UV oil or UV lacquer to your specification.

Do stair treads carry the same certifications as your flooring?

Yes. Stair treads are produced from the same certified material as our hardwood flooring, including FSC, CARB2, CE, and ISO certifications.
